THE AFFILIATION FUNCTION

The main function of social security affiliation is to incorporate a person into the social security system and, therefore, guarantee their access to the benefits and services it offers. Affiliation is mandatory for people who perform a work activity that includes them in the system.

WHAT DOES AFFILIATION IMPLY?

Affiliation implies:
  • Identification: The person who affiliates receives a Social Security Number (NUSS), which identifies them within the system
  • Registration: Affiliation is done through the General Affiliation Control service
  • Rights and obligations: Affiliation establishes the person's rights and obligations within the system, such as the right to receive benefits for illness, maternity, old age, etc., and the obligation to contribute to social security.

WHY IS AFFILIATION IMPORTANT?

The importance of affiliation lies in the fact that:
  • It guarantees protection in case of contingencies (need): It allows access to health services, economic benefits and other benefits in case of illness, work accident, maternity, etc.
  • It facilitates access to benefits: It allows access to retirement, disability, widowhood pensions, etc.
  • It is a requirement to access certain labor rights: It is necessary to exercise rights such as access to public health, welfare benefits such as social action, etc.

HOW IS COMPANY REGISTRATION AND WORKER AFFILIATION CARRIED OUT?

The registration of companies and workers is initially simultaneous. It occurs through the presentation by companies of the requirements listed in the attached sheet.
